Windows Cloud Server for Business Software in Italy: Milan Data Center (2026)

In short: to use their business software from several offices or from home, many Italian companies move their Windows server to the cloud. At OMC Cloud the server runs in the Milan data center with Windows Server 2022, employees connect with Remote Desktop, and the existing server is migrated free of charge as it is, with its applications, users and data.

Why move business software to a cloud server

• Work from anywhere: office, warehouse, branches and remote staff use the same software by connecting to the server with Remote Desktop.
• No hardware in the office: no server to replace every few years, no problems with power, heat or failed disks.
• Backup and recovery: automatic daily backup with 14 restore points, and disaster recovery that restarts the server in another location within 30 minutes.
• Data in Italy: the server is physically in Milan.

What you can run

• On-premise Windows business software and ERP with its database (for example SQL Server).
• Terminal server (Remote Desktop): several users work on the same server at the same time.
• .NET applications, file sharing and Active Directory: the office server, moved to the cloud.

Before migrating, check with your software vendor the license terms for running it on a cloud server. Remote Desktop access licenses (RDS CALs) and application licenses are handled separately.

How to size the server

Windows Server needs more resources than a small Linux server. Two examples from OMC Cloud’s public price list, with Windows Server 2022:

• A few users or a single application: 2 vCPU, 4 GB RAM, 50 GB NVMe, $39 per month.
• Terminal server or business software for a small team: 4 vCPU, 8 GB RAM, 100 GB NVMe, $111 per month.

You can add CPU, RAM and storage from the console as the team grows. A SQL Server database benefits from fast NVMe storage.

Migrating the existing server

The simplest way is an “as is” migration: the current server, with its applications, users and data, is copied to the cloud, and employees connect to the new server without changing how they work. At OMC Cloud, migrating existing Windows servers is free. Plan it for a low-activity day, keep the old server running until you have checked the new one, and test the main applications right away.

Is the server shared with other customers?
No, it is a virtual server with resources dedicated to you, with full administrator access.

What happens if the server fails?
With daily backup you can return to any of 14 restore points; with disaster recovery the server restarts in another location within 30 minutes.
