What drives the price of a VPS

  • Dedicated or burst resources: burst resources can only be used temporarily and cost less; dedicated resources give consistent performance.
  • Managed or unmanaged: management (updates, monitoring, interventions) can triple the monthly price, but replaces an administrator's work.
  • Operating system: Windows Server needs a license, usually paid separately; not every Romanian provider offers Windows VPS.
  • Control panel: cPanel or Plesk licenses are usually extra.
  • Backup: at many providers backup is a paid option, not included.
  • Location: some providers charge more for certain locations; at OMC Cloud the price is the same in all 25 data centers.

The costs you only discover on the invoice

  • Promotional prices: the discount often applies only to the first billing period, then the price rises at renewal.
  • Exchange rate: prices are in euros and the invoice in lei, at the BNR rate plus a margin or at a fixed rate set by the provider.
  • VAT: list prices usually exclude VAT.
  • Prepayment: some plans are paid 3, 6 or 12 months in advance.
  • Migration: free migration often covers only cPanel websites, not Windows servers or applications.

How to choose

For a small website or a test project, a €4–10 Linux VPS is enough. For an online shop, an ERP or accounting software used by several people, dedicated resources, backup, SLA and who helps you when something breaks matter more. If your users are in Romania, a server in Romania answers faster than one in Germany or the Netherlands. Test before you pay: ping the provider's speed-test server, for example eu-bu-speedtest.omc.cloud for Bucharest.
