Windows Server in the Cloud in Romania: 2026 Guide

Short answer: A Windows server in the cloud is a virtual server running Windows Server, hosted in a data center, which you access through Remote Desktop. In Romania, not all providers offer Windows VPS: this option is not listed on the VPS pages of Hostico and Romarg, and with others the Windows license is paid separately. For accounting software, ERP or remote work, a Windows server in Bucharest means low latency and data kept in Romania.

What a Windows server in the cloud is used for

  • Accounting and ERP software: WinMentor, SAGA, Ciel and other Windows applications run for the whole team.
  • Terminal server (RDS): several employees work simultaneously on the same server, from the office or from home.
  • .NET applications and SQL Server: internal applications and Microsoft databases.
  • File sharing and Active Directory: the office server moved to the cloud.

What providers in Romania offer

On 16 October 2026 we checked what providers publish on their websites:

  • Hostico: no Windows option is listed on the VPS page.
  • Romarg: only Linux distributions are listed on the VPS page.
  • ClausWeb: Windows in the cloud from €25 per month (2 vCPU, 8 GB RAM), without the Microsoft Windows license.
  • Hosterion: through the IntoVPS brand, Windows license from $9.
  • OMC Cloud: Windows Server on VPS servers in Bucharest, with free migration of existing Windows servers.

Full comparisons: vs Hostico, vs Romarg, vs ClausWeb, vs Hosterion.

How to size the server

Windows Server uses more resources than a minimal Linux server. For a few users working through Remote Desktop, start with a small server with a few cores and at least 4–8 GB RAM, then increase resources from the console as the team grows. A terminal server for multiple users needs more memory, and a SQL Server database needs fast NVMe storage. Remote Desktop access licenses and application licenses are checked separately with the provider of each license.

Moving your existing Windows server

The simplest migration is "as is": your current server, with its applications, users and data, is copied to the cloud, and employees connect to the new server without changing the way they work. Plan the migration for a low-activity day, keep the old server running until you have checked the new server, and test the important applications right away.
